Software Defined Radio Head for Next-Generation 5G Massive MIMO Base Station Systems and other SDR applications

Today N.A.T. announced the NAMC-SDR, a flexible software-defined radio (SDR) platform that will simplify and accelerate the development, prototyping and testing of new wireless radio access network technologies. Designed for 5G massive multiple input, multiple output (MIMO and M-MIMO) base station transceiver (BTS) systems and proprietary or standard implementations of UMTS, LTE / LTE-Advanced systems, the NAMC-SDR can also be used in a variety of applications ranging from cognitive radios to resilient security networks.
The N.A.T. NAMC-SDR consists of stacked analog and digital boards in the AMC form factor.

The digital board contains a Xilinx Zynq XC7Z045, a clock distribution network with synchronization in- and outputs, 4 x 10 Gbps lanes for CPRI and 10 GbE to the front panel via QSFP, as well as high speed lanes connected to the backplane.

The analog board contains up to 4x AD9361 SoC devices, which can be fully synchronized up to 4 GHz, each SoC supporting two transceivers, a tunable carrier frequency between 70 MHz up to 6 GHz, and < 56 MHz analog bandwidth.

N.A.T. has collaborated with the Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI), which is the Fraunhofer Institute for Telecommunications, to integrate IQ compression technology from Integrated Device Technology, Inc.® (IDT®), enabling mobile operators to realize up to three times the effective bandwidth on the CPRI optical link in a BTS.

The NAMC-SDR can easily scale up to dozens of antennas on the access link, providing higher data rates by advanced beamforming techniques.

The NAMC-SDR can also connect to the new N.A.T. NAMC-ODSP-W, for baseband processing and be integrated with other N.A.T. products such as the NATIVE-C2 MicroTCA chassis with integrated management (NAT-MCH) and power modules (NAT-PM-AC600) and N.A.T. processor modules to provide a complete BTS infrastructure solution in-a-box.
